Kim FawcettMeet Kim Fawcett – Your Voice for Change

Kim Fawcett, a dedicated community volunteer with professional experience in legislative affairs, has declared her candidacy for state representative in Fairfield and Westport. Kim is committed to giving people in the 133rd district a strong voice in the lawmaking process. She believes it’s a legislator’s job to listen to the needs and concerns of her constituents and effectively represent them in Hartford. As someone who has worked for a governor and a U.S. senator, Kim understands how the legislature works. And as a wife and mother of three young children, Kim cares deeply about issues that matter to families. She will work hard to make Connecticut a better place to live, to learn, and to work.

Community Experience

Project director, SPARK Pool Committee, November 2002 -June 2004
Kim joined forces with SPARK – Safe Parks and Recreation for Kids Inc. – an all-volunteer nonprofit organization, to coordinate the ambitious “Dive in Now” campaign. This grassroots effort motivated more than 1,000 Fairfield families to show their commitment to the pool project by contributing $100 each toward pool membership, demonstrating a substantial need and desire for a pool in Fairfield.

Membership co-chair, The League of Women Voters of Fairfield, 2003 – 2005
Kim played an instrumental role in helping the Fairfield chapter gain state-level recognition for successful recruiting by expanding the League’s efforts to address issues important to Fairfield families.

Kim also spearheaded the League’s sponsorship of a major public forum in November 2004 on the federal No Child Left Behind law and its impact on our schools.

Founder, “Above and Beyond” after-school program, Stratfield School, Fairfield, 2005
Noting the need for affordable, on-site after-school programming, Kim worked with the PTA to establish “Above and Beyond,” giving students the option of enrolling in affordable classes in karate, drama, dance, science, art and music. Now in its second year, the program serves almost 200 children, representing about 40 percent of the school’s population each semester.
